South Petherton is a small village in the county of Somerset, England. It is situated on the River Parrett, close to the county town of Taunton. The population of South Petherton is around 1,400 people and encompasses a number of adjacent localities, such as West Lambrook and Renscombe.

At the heart of this quaint village is the rich history and heritage that it possesses, with plenty of reminders of the past. South Petherton is renowned for its connection with the car industry. The village has, over the years, been home to a large number of automotive businesses, including Truxell Motors, who specialised in custom conversions and restorations of classic cars, including Ferraris and Porsches. The village is also known for its connection to the finance industry, as the area has been home to many banks over the years. Bank of England, Barclays, Halifax and Yorkshire Bank have all had a presence here.

The village's ties to motorsport, however, may be its most notable claim to fame. South Petherton is home to the Somerset Motor Racing Club (SMRC), which began in 1976 and is one of the oldest motor racing clubs in the United Kingdom. The club keeps a schedule of events throughout the year, from motorsports events through to local rallies. In addition, regular demonstrations and 'Come and Try' events are held for members of the public. Following the success of the South Petherton track, it was chosen as the venue for the British Automobile Racing Club's national Championships in 1992.
