More information about Lymm

Lymm, in the north west of the United Kingdom, is a small market town with a population of around 10,000 people, but this does not tell the whole story. Whilst Lymm may seem like a quaint rural village, it is in fact connected to three fascinating and cutting-edge industries - the car industry, the finance industry and motorsport.

Cars

The most obvious link between Lymm and the car industry is the presence of Motorcare, a Mercedes- Benz authorised dealer, who have been based in Lymm since 1998. Although small, Motorcare is a tremendous success story and is the longest-established Mercedes-Benz authorised dealer in England. Starting out as a division of a local garage, Motorcare now serves customers across the North West and beyond, providing the latest Mercedes-Benz vehicles, as well as a comprehensive aftercare service.

Not only is Lymm home to Motorcare, it is also the birthplace of a pioneering automotive innovation. In 2011, the town was the proud host of the first ever KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) car race on public roads. Developed by the F1 team Williams and RACINGA, the competition showed how green technology can revolutionise the way we drive. The winner of the race, Jenson Button, went on to use the KERS technology in the F1 world championships.

Finance

Since the founding of Motorcare, Lymm has become a magnet for financial services businesses. The majority of them are located in the Waterside Centre — a business park of sorts - which is composed of various offices and commercial units. Along the banks of a tranquil canal, the Waterside Centre is now home to a wealth of banking, insurance and financial companies.

The first of these to set up in Lymm was NatWest, who opened a branch in 2001. Since then, the centre has grown and now includes a wealth of other financial institutions, like HSBC, Santander, Barclays, and Lloyds. The Waterside Centre has become a much-loved hub for Lymm's growing business community, due to its convenient location and excellent transport links.

Motorsport

Lymm's connection to the world of motorsport is less well-known but equally fascinating. In 2009, the town hosted a two-day rally, with cars racing through the picturesque countryside. Organised and run by the North West Rally Club, the rally attracted spectators from all over the UK who came to marvel at the skill and spectacle of the event.

The North West Rally Club, who organise events in Lymm and across the North West, were started in 2009 by two local enthusiasts, Ian Johnson and Dave Smythe. The club's aim is to promote the spirit of motorsport and to provide a platform for budding mechanics and drivers to participate in events.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of Lymm was 10,926, with 50.2% of these people being female and 49.8% male. The median age was 44, with a fifth of the population under 20, and over a quarter of people being aged over 65. In terms of ethnicity, 91.1% of the population were White British, with 3.2% coming from other White backgrounds, 1% from Asian / Asian British backgrounds, and 1.8% from Black / African / Caribbean backgrounds.

Conclusion

In summary, Lymm is a small market town with a population of 10,000 inhabitants. Whilst this may sound unremarkable, Lymm is home to a fascinating selection of businesses, including Motorcare, a Mercedes-Benz authorised dealer, as well as a range of financial services companies in the Waterside Centre. Finally, Lymm has an established motorsport culture, with events taking place in the town and beyond, all of which are organised by the North West Rally Club. All of these different industries demonstrate Lymm's unique connection to some of the most exciting aspects of modern life, making it a hidden gem in the UK.
