More information about Esher

Esher is a town in Surrey located in South-East England, around 17 miles southwest of London. To many, Esher is known as a large commuter-belt town in Greater London. The town itself has a population of over 21,000, and is situated on the M25 motorway, giving it easy access to London and the rest of the country.

Despite being a relatively small town, Esher, particularly the part of the town known as Claygate, is known as a very affluent area and has a number of well-known residents, some of them being notable names such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Elle Macpherson and Mick Jagger.

Esher is not just famous for its celebrity inhabitants, however. The area has a rich history in the car industry, finance industry and motorsport.

The Car Industry

Esher International Racing Association (EIRA) was founded in Esher in 1947, and the association came to prominence after it held what is known to this day as The Esher Meeting. This meeting was seen as the first international car race to be held in Britain after World War II. Overall, the event was a great success and attracted a large number of spectators. After this, the association became one of the most important driving forces in developing the motor industry in the UK.

The Finance Industry

Esher is also the location of one of the oldest banks in the area, Esher & Co. which has been in operation since 1763. Over the centuries, the bank has gone through many different incarnations and remains a mainstay in the local area.

The bank is best known for its involvement in the area's motorsport industry, which it has been involved in for many years. Esher & Co. is one of the sponsors for numerous motorsport championships, including the Isle of Man TT, British Superbike Championship and British Touring Car Championship.

Motorsport

Esher itself is also home to two of the UK's premier motorsports circuits: Brooklands Motor Circuit and Sandown Park Racecourse. The latter is the more historic of the two, having been in operation since 1875 and hosting a range of motor racing events, including the British Touring Car Championship, the British Round of the World Superbike Championship and the British Formula Three championship.

Brooklands Motor Circuit is the world's oldest race circuit, having opened in 1907 and providing a unique mix of flat and banked turns. The circuit is still in use today and offers up a range of different events, from Historic Racing Cars to regular road cars.

Demographics

Esher has a population of over 21,000 people, of whom 62.3% are White British, 20.3% are White other and 10.2% are Asian or Asian British. The town has a median age of 43, slightly lower than the UK average of 44.7. The town also has a slightly lower average income compared to England as a whole.

Esher is a relatively small town with a rich history, thanks to its connections to the car industry, finance industry and motorsport. It is an affluent area and is home to a range of celebrity inhabitants and well-known businesses. Despite being relatively small, the town offers up a range of activities and events, making it an ideal location for those looking for a quiet but accessible place to call home.
