More information about Buntingford

Buntingford — A Small Town with Big Industry Connections

Tucked away in the east of Hertfordshire, not far from the border with Essex, is the small market town of Buntingford. A true geographical centre of the county, Buntingford has a population of around 5,500 or so, making it a relatively small settlement in the region.

However, with its location straddling two major motorways in the M11 and M25, Buntingford is well connected and this, along with its easy access to London via the rail network, makes the town attractive to businesses looking to expand. As a result, Buntingford is home to a number of high profile firms across a range of industries, with a strong presence in the automotive and financial sectors.

Buntingford's Car and Automotive Industries

Unsurprisingly, the car industry is Buntingford's biggest employer, with a number of major firms based in and around the town. Perhaps the most notable of these is Dagenham Motors, a Ford Motor Company plant based within the town, which employs over 1,000 people. Dagenham Motors is responsible for the design, manufacture and assembly of a range of Ford cars and vans, including the Ford S-Max, Transit and Ranger.

Aside from the Ford plant, Buntingford is also home to GenX Autos, a bespoke auto restoration business that specialises in restoring classic cars, with customers ranging from individuals to major car manufacturers. Founded in 1992, GenX has become a well-known name in the industry and its reputation is such that it was chosen to restore a number of classic cars, including the iconic 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT, on behalf of the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, UK.

On top of these two firms, Buntingford is also home to a number of major car parts suppliers, such as Autostop, Martin's, and Peugeot Autocare, as well as a number of independent garages and car accessory retailers.

Buntingford's Financial Sector

The car industry isn't the only sector in which Buntingford stands out, however. The town is also well known for its strong financial industry. Sitting between the larger towns of Wisbech and Ely in Cambridgeshire, Buntingford has access to a number of major financial firms, with Barclays Bank, Lloyds and Natwest all having branches in the town.

There are also a number of independent accountancy and consulting firms based in Buntingford, too. One of the most notable of these is chartered accountant and business advisor, Marley Milne & Co. Established back in 1986, Marley Milne & Co specialises in tax planning, corporate finance and other business services, and has a team of 30 experts working in their Buntingford office.

Aside from the banking and finance sector, Buntingford also has a number of other major companies based in the area, including a major legal firm, Tesco superstores and a number of public service organisations, such as the East Herts Council.

Buntingford's Motorsport Connections

As well as its big industry connections, Buntingford is also closely associated with motorsport. Situated just a few miles from Britain's most famous circuit, Silverstone, Buntingford is home to a number of professional teams, facilities and events.

Perhaps the most famous of these is Dynostop, Buntingford's multi-million-pound motorsport testing facility. Boasting a fully equipped workshop, test area and wind tunnel, Dynostop was the first facility of its kind in the UK, and has played a key role in the development of new cars and technologies in the motorsport industry.

Alongside the Dynostop facility, Buntingford is home to a number of racing teams, including Class Cars and High Speed Motorsport, as well as numerous events, including the annual British Grand Prix, held in early July and the Hangar Muntford Circuit Race, a test event held in June each year.

Demographics

Given its somewhat rural location and small population, it's perhaps unsurprising that Buntingford's demographics are dominated by those of working age (64%). Of the remaining population, 21% is considered to be of retirement age and 15% of the population is aged between 16 and 29. The population is also approximately 97% white, with the rest comprising other ethnic groups.

Overall, Buntingford might be small, but it certainly punches above its weight when it comes to the wider economy. Whether it's its automotive and financial ties or its motorsport links, Buntingford is home to a number of major industry players and events, with the town providing an ideal location for businesses due to its proximity to London, easy access to major motorway links and its close proximity to a number of top-level facilities, teams and organisations. As a result, Buntingford's economy is only set to grow and develop in the coming years.
